It was another incredible year at my favorite music festival. I doubt if you'll find a more beautifully organized event at any price and this one is still under $90/person for the entire three-day event. I especially enjoyed attending all of the finalists' performances for the Dave Carter Memorial Songwriting Contest. Congratulations to the winner Alicia McGovern (already in the rotation on Acoustic Pie Radio, I might point out!) My advice for attending Sisters: Book your condo or motel room EARLY so that you can park your car on Friday and forget about it until the festival is over. ~Kelley Eve

It's been ten years since the much-loved Mikey's coffeehouse closed the doors on the stage where so many of San Diego's singer/songwriters got their start. The reunion show brought back more than a dozen of these artists for a fun evening of music and reminiscences. These photos were taken by the fantabulous Dennis Andersen. You can see the rest of his gallery as well as all of Dennis's concert photos at Dennis Andersen Photography. ~Kelley Eve

My favorite music festival ~ it's the non-campers dream event! All stages within walking distance, all venues have chairs, the sound is fantastic and the shows start on time. Seriously, even if the music wasn't wonderful, you would appreciate this festival! You'll find Peter Mulvey, Betty Soo, Ellis, Martyn Joseph and Chris Kokesh among the photos in the slideshow. For a full listing of this year's performers, here's the Sisters Folk webpage. It was a fantastic line-up. You can read all about this year's visit in the Acoustic Pie newsletter blog here! ~Kelley Eve |

Best Roots Festival ever for fans of original songwriting! I caught pics of Sara Watins, Glen Phillips, Candye Kane, John Doe, Venice and Carlos Olmeda. For some fantastic professional pics of these and other performances from the festival, please visit Dennis Andersen's photo site. ~Kelley Eve |

The first ever LA Acoustic Music Festival was grand! Wonderful music, easy parking and perfectly organized in a wondrously beautiful setting. These are photos from the Sunday performances: Slaid Cleaves, Nanci Griffith, Jimmy LaFave's traveling Woody Guthrie tribute ~ it was quite a day. If you weren't lucky enough to attend this year, I'll hope to see you there next summer! ~Kelley Eve |

Rock Valley House Concerts It takes a lot of work, time and money to host house concerts and I'm soo-o-o grateful to the people who are generous enough to do so and to welcome the rest of us lazy bums into their homes. As I always say, there's no better way on earth to listen to music than a house concert. Carol Branch in the University City area of San Diego has been regularly hosting the best of San Diego's acoustic talent for several years. This gallery is a tribute to her generosity and energy and features seven of the shows from her Rock Valley series. To receive show announcements, please email her. Thanks, Carol! ~Kelley Eve Photos by Bengt Nyman & Dennis Andersen |

This was the 35th anniversary of this free annual two-day festival which features acoustic roots-based music in a wild variety of genres. This year, they had over 50 live shows on six stages. It's quite an event for a freebie! We're so lucky that the ever-present Dennis Andersen was indeed ever-present and shared his photos with us! ~Kelley Eve

The San Diego Music Awards Acoustic Music Fest is one of the most fun events of the year with two stages of music and over twenty musical performances. And if you missed it, like I did, we're very lucky that Dan Chusid was there with his camera to capture the show. This annual event is a pre-awards concert leading up to the San Diego Music Awards. It features San Diego acoustic artists, primarily singer/songwriters, and is held at the Claire de Lune Coffee Lounge in North Park. Claire de Lune is worth a visit even when there's not music involved! It's a large, window-ringed, airy, funky coffee house with living room style seating and great espresso drinks. Many thanks to Dan Chusid for sharing his work! ~Kelley Eve

Berkley Hart The Berkley Hart 10th Anniversary Show at AcousticMusicSanDiego (and Acoustic Pie Pick of the Month) turned out to be just as wonderful as expected. A full house ~ so many friends there! ~ a great performance, fun surprises, a beautiful venue. I credit my first Berkley Hart house concert back in 2001 as rejuvenating my love of live music shows and this one did not disappoint. And I was thrilled that Dennis Andersen was on hand taking photos and willing to share them with Acoustic Pie. ~Kelley Eve |

Dougie MacLean Dougie's full-band show at the Birch North Park Theatre was the Pick of the Month for June. Even on a night like this when the house was practically full, this lovely medium-sized venue has an intimate, friendly feel to it. I love Dougie's music and I loved this show. And I'm so glad that Steve Covault was on board photographing all the action and that I'm able to share his photos here with you! ~Kelley Eve

Sara Petite Sara's show at the Clarke House Concert this month was the Acoustic Pie Pick of the Month for May and, if I do say so myself, it was an excellent recommendation! The setting was wonderful, the music exceptional, and Sara was charming and funny. A very special evening, all in all. Meeting local photographer Dennis Andersen that night and discovering his collection of Sara Petite photographs inspired me to compile this gallery of his work from several of Sara's shows this year. ~Kelley Eve

ArtWalk 2007 Another very fun year at ArtWalk! I do actually look at some of the art, really I do, but mostly I'm hopping among the six stages of local music. This year I got to hear Dave Howard, Lisa Sanders, Carlos Olmeda, Steph Johnson, Saba, Anna Troy, The Coyote Problem and more! Photos of most of the musicians I was able to enjoy over the two days can be found here in the gallery. In the continuing saga of my much beloved Byer's Tri-Lite festival stool, I would like to report that I did not fall off of it even once this year. And that's a new record. ~Kelley Eve

San Diego Music Awards A favorite annual event of mine! The SDMA Acoustic Music Fest is usually held on the double stages of Claire de Lune coffee house and features San Diego's singer/songwriters and acoustic bands. This great collection of photos was taken by Bengt Nyman who seems to always find himself wherever the best acoustic music is being played! ~Kelley Eve |

Adams Ave Street Fair Another glorious two days on the streets of Normal Heights enjoying San Diego's finest. I spent most of Saturday inside Lestat's so I didn't take any photos that day. These were all taken outdoors on Sunday and most are of the DiMille's stage. Step inside to find Cindy Lee Berryhill, The Gregory Page Show, Arabella Harrison and the 7th Day Buskers. Enjoy! ~Kelley Eve Photos by Kelley Eve Martin, Acoustic Pie |

Jason Mraz Another Tom Walko gallery! This time a retro-look at Jason Mraz's 2005 concert cruise aboard the Hornblower. Lucky (and speedy) KPRI listeners won tickets by being the first to arrive at announced ticket locations. I've yet to make it! Too-o-o slow! Thanks to Tom, we all get to see a glimpse of what we missed. ~Kelley Eve

Anything for the Shot Anything for the Shot was a photography exhibit of some of San Diego's finest concert photographers accompanied by back-to-back performances by many of San Diego's finest singer/songwriters. Organized by Idynomite Media and Listen Local SD and hosted by Acoustic Expressions music store. The shots in this gallery were taken by the wonderful Tom Walko ~ one of the featured photographers that day. Click on the flyer to the left to enter the gallery! ~Kelley Eve |

PB Block Party 2005 I'm happy to announce that my little camping stool was a great addition to the festival experience and I made a few new friends when I toppled off of it during the Truckee Brothers' show. Brother. I've included a little photo of my new festival stool to commemorate the event. And what an event this was. Rarely have I seen youth so scantily clad and so mightily tattooed. Speaking of which, another highlight of the day was the topless gal at the Berkley Hart show. Did I get a picture? It all happened so fast... Enter the gallery by clicking on the logo at the left! Such a fun event. San Diego's singer/songwriters were out in force. Pete Thurston, Gregory Page, Christopher Dale, Coyote Problem, Anna Troy, Cathryn Beeks, Simeon Flick, Rookie Card - they were all there! Festival tip for next year: Very little seating is provided. I ran out and purchased a fold-up camping stool afterwards - I'm ready for the Pacific Beach Block Party now! Click on the happy crowd in the Little Italy photo at the left to view more photos...
